Focus has launched its Defensive Driving Course
Held at 2 Locations – The First Aid Academy in Cairns City and the Cairns Showgrounds – entrance Severin Street. Note : there are limited spaces for each Course. The start time is 9.00am (please ensure you arrive 15 mins before start time), finish time approximately, 4pm. We start the day with our full awareness presentation at the First Aid Academy. In the afternoon, we develop crash prevention techniques on the track at the Cairns Showgrounds.
Objectives of the Focus Defensive Driving Course:
- Minimise risk to yourself and others on the road – identifying hazards, reading the road
- Braking and steering exercises in both wet and dry conditions – straight lines and cornering
- Emergency Hazard Avoidance
- Understanding your limitations and your car’s limitations – every car has differing features
- Understanding the importance of your seating position, seat belt position, airbags and how to prevent serious injury
- How to undertake a vehicle safety check incl tyres pressures, and basic maintenance
- Understand what effect your reaction time, weather conditions, the car you drive and your mental and/or physical health, have on your ability to stop at various speeds
- Stopping Distance demonstrations up to 90kpm
- Analysis of what causes skidding and vehicle instability
- Understanding different technologies in cars and how to utilise new car technology with maximum effectiveness.

Fitness and experience
Inform the Trainer of any medication you may be taking which could influence your driving capability and any fitness issues.
What you should bring:
- Your current Driving Licence
- Own vehicle with correct tyre pressures, no loose objects in the cabin plus 1/2 tank of fuel.
- Lunch is BYO please label if leaving in fridge, also KFC and McDonalds are 5 min distance walk
- Water
- Hat & sunscreen
- Casual clothing which is not tight in any way
- Shoes – enclosed with a flexible rubber sole.
